WebGate General FAQ
May I run more than one WebGate front-end module ?
Yes, you may use any one or combination of front-end modules.

May I add an additional module at a later date ?
Yes, additional modules can be added at any time.

What is the ID # or PIN # of the pager ?
Sometimes it is the capcode or the phone number usually it is an unrelated number. In either case you must get the "ID" or "PIN" from your paging service provider.

What is the TAP phone number ?
This is the phone number to call the paging terminal. Contact your paging service provider or the paging carrier for this number.

How does your software treat e-mail messages with graphic encapsulation e.g. attachments, jpg, MIME?
Only the text portions of the e-mail body are sent to the pager. If the user account set to forward messages to an e-mail account. The full message will be forwarded to that account.

How fast of a modem is required ?
A 1200 baud modem or faster will work

I can't enter more than two pagers into the shareware version of WebGate that I downloaded, why ?
The shareware version of WebGate is a limited version and only allows for two pagers to be set up.

Will WebGate support more than one modem per server?
WebGate supports up to 16 dialers and direct cable connections.

Can I send the same messages to multiple pagers?
WebGate v2.4 (and higher) supports groups, which allows groups of pagers to share a single web page.

Can WebGate run as a system service under Windows NT?
Yes, WebGate version 3.0 and later will run as a true Windows NT system service.


Will WebGate work with a direct connection to the paging terminal (a direct serial connection, no modem)?
Yes, a direct cable connection can be used in conjunction with other dialers that have modems, to allow pages to be sent externally too.

Can WebGate's modules be run on separate machines?
Yes, each of WebGate's modules may be run on a different system. They must all be networked together.

Why does WebGate keep stopping every 3-5 days ?
The shareware version of WebGate is a limited version for evaluation purposes and will stop running after 3-5 days. For additional limitations.

What is reliapage ?
Reliapage may be turned on to number the pages, signaling the recipient of missed pages.

Can I use WebGate with Unix ?
Yes and No, the WebGate engine itself must run on a Windows 95 or NT system. The e-mail and web interfaces will allow any machine with either a browser or e-mail program to send pages (including unix).

In the web module, how are the personal home pages created ?
Individuals may choose from templates, or custom pages can be designed. The actual pages can be automatically created by the software.

Our paging provider does not adhere to the TAP paging protocol, what options do I have ? Please contact sales@notepage.net to discuss customizations or any modification options and pricing.

Is the TAP protocol the same as the PET protocol?
The PET protocol was a precursor to TAP and if your carrier uses "PET" in many cases NotePage's software titles will work.

What web servers will WebGate work with?
WebGate will work with any windows based web server.

What operating systems operating systems will WebGate work on?
Although the WebGate engine must run on a Windows 95, 98, NT, ME or 2000 system, pages can be sent from DOS, windows 3.x, OS/2, Mac's and even Unix stations, if they are networked to the WebGate system. In addition with the e-mail or web front-ends, pages may be sent from anything that can do e-mail or www.

Will WebGate support more than one modem per server ?

Will WebGate queue messages on the WebGate server for when dialout lines are busy?
Yes

How are upgrades handled ?

What is Shareware?
Shareware is software that is freely distributed, typically on a trial basis. If the software is used beyond the trial period you must register it and pay a fee.
